Digital Manufacturing & Simulation

Connecting Engineering Data to Manufacturing Execution.

Digital manufacturing provides the connection between component geometry, manufacturing strategy, robotic motion and production documentation.

For AFP, this connection is especially important because toolpath decisions influence material placement, robot motion and the manufacturability of the component.

Digital engineering workflow

One Thread From Geometry to Record.

  1. CAD GeometryEstablish the component geometry, tool surfaces and relevant interfaces.
  2. Manufacturing PlanningDefine the intended manufacturing sequence, material courses and tooling strategy.
  3. AFP Toolpath GenerationDevelop programmed placement paths suited to the geometry, material and equipment configuration.
  4. Simulation and VerificationEvaluate the programmed process for motion, accessibility, collision and manufacturing constraints using the available software.
  5. Manufacturing ExecutionTransfer approved manufacturing data to the relevant equipment under controlled procedures.
  6. Process DocumentationRetain the applicable revision, manufacturing instructions, inspection records and other required production evidence.
Digital continuity

Every Manufacturing Decision Needs a Defined Reference.

A digital manufacturing workflow should make it possible to identify which design revision, toolpath, material batch and manufacturing instructions were used for a particular component.

The level of digital integration depends on the equipment, software and information systems deployed. DANTA aims to build this discipline as its manufacturing and quality systems mature.

Software and engineering tools

Tool Categories in Our Workflow.

  • CAD modelling
  • AFP CAM and toolpath programming
  • Robot simulation
  • Structural analysis, where applicable
  • Manufacturing documentation
  • Quality records and revision control

Specific software names appear only where DANTA holds the licence and uses the software for the stated purpose.

Engineering boundary

Simulation Is Not Qualification.

Simulation helps evaluate a proposed process, but it does not independently establish that a finished component meets all structural, quality or regulatory requirements.

Manufacturing trials, inspection and validation must be defined according to the application.

Plan the Process Before the Part.

Share the geometry and we will discuss the digital route to manufacture.
