Composite Pressure Vessels for Demanding Gas-Storage Applications.
Composite pressure vessels combine a pressure-containing liner or other suitable barrier architecture with structural reinforcement designed to carry the intended loads.
Their performance depends on vessel architecture, material properties, geometry, manufacturing process, operating conditions and qualification.
DANTA is evaluating composite pressure-vessel applications within its AFP-led manufacturing strategy.
Lightweight Structures. Application-Specific Engineering.
Composite pressure vessels are used in selected applications where weight, storage requirements and structural performance are important.
The design of a pressure vessel must address the intended gas, pressure, temperature, permeation, environmental exposure, fatigue requirements, interfaces and applicable regulations.
A vessel concept must be evaluated as a complete pressure-containing system rather than as a composite shell alone.
What a Composite Vessel May Include.
- Liner or gas-barrier system
- Structural composite reinforcement
- End fittings and interfaces
- Protective features
- Identification and traceability
- Defined inspection and testing provisions
Illustrative. The actual architecture depends on the vessel design and applicable standard.
Where Vessel Programmes May Apply.

Selected industrial gases, subject to gas compatibility and regulatory requirements.
ExploreBreathing-Air Applications
Breathing apparatus, subject to the relevant product standard, safety requirements and qualification.
ExploreHydrogen Storage
Applications requiring specialised hydrogen compatibility, permeation, durability and safety evaluation.
ExploreOther Engineered Gas-Storage Systems
Additional opportunities assessed according to technical feasibility and applicable approval requirements.
Define These Before Evaluation.
- Intended gas
- Nominal working pressure
- Water capacity
- Operating temperature
- Vessel dimensions
- Expected service life
- Loading and environmental conditions
- Filling and discharge requirements
- Applicable standard and jurisdiction
- Required qualification and certification
- Target annual production volume
The Manufacturing Route Must Match the Vessel.
Pressure-vessel manufacturing requires careful coordination between geometry, reinforcement architecture, liner design, tooling, material processing and testing.
AFP may be suitable for selected vessel architectures, but its suitability must be demonstrated for the specific geometry, equipment configuration, production rate and cost target. DANTA evaluates manufacturing feasibility before committing to a proposed production route.
Qualification and Safety.
Pressure vessels are safety-critical products.
A development concept must not be represented as a certified pressure vessel before the applicable design validation, testing, manufacturing approvals and regulatory requirements have been satisfied.
Operating limits must be established through the relevant engineering and qualification process.
